started Prolific.

There are two kinds of agencies. We refused to be either.
The first can build anything—so they hand you a template and call it a solution. Development shops where the code is clean and the architecture is sound, but the experience gets almost no strategic thought. The hard engineering questions get answered; the human ones never get asked. Function with no point of view.
The second makes everything beautiful. Creative and advertising agencies that win the room with a gorgeous comp—then hand it off to be built, and watch it buckle the moment it meets the real world. Form with no foundation.
We started Prolific because the work we cared about lived in neither camp. It lived where the two finally meet.
Our obsession with how something works is matched only by our obsession with how it feels to use. We sweat the load times and the line breaks, the database schema and the kerning, the edge case and the entrance animation. The thing has to be engineered with rigor and designed with intent—because to the person on the other side of the screen, those were never two separate things.
That’s the studio we built. The one that obsesses over both.
Before founding the agency, I spent time at Apple and years touring as a musician—one taught me that engineering and design are the same discipline, the other that a thing only works when every part is in tune. Prolific is built on both.
